Sacramento News and Review...

Sacramento News and Review asked me to come up with a 5-track (sort of Top 5 songs of the moment) playlist for their publication. I of course was thrilled to do so, and it was in the back of my mind all weekend as I perused my current tastes of LPs and mp3s, two mediums that are polar opposites when it comes to "musical appreciation".

It was an extremely hard task to accomplish. Usually when I'm asked, "Whats your favorite song", I can do nothing but blink and stare vacantly in hopes that "Lady Humps" doesnt find its way past my lips. Then I play possum.

It wasnt like the days of making mixes for my old mix-a-month blog. That was easy, cause it didnt have to reflect my "Top Songs of the Moment", nor did it have to reflect anything about my current mood. Just sort of represent the mix of that month, whatever it could have been. Not only that, but it wasnt being published to represent me, my music tastes, and my band (in a sense), so there was no pressure.

But alas, this is what I came up with:

1 - So Much Wine - The Handsome Family - Off of their album, In The Air

2 - Angels and Aliens - Travis Vick - Off of his EP, Player Piano

3 - Wanted - Loose Fur - Off of their album, Born Again in the USA

4 - Last Flowers to the Hospital - Radiohead - Off of the B-Sides of In Rainbows

5 - Hold On Hope - Guided By Voices - Off of the EP, Hold on Hope

Hold on Hope was also on the Guided By Voices album, Do the Collapse, which is what I listed it as in my official entry, but I first heard it on the EP.

I honestly was shocked at myself for not including a Wilco song, but if I could put:

1 - Wilco - A Ghost is Born, the entire album.

...I probably would have.

yeah that is pretty much one of the best songs ever.

remember to remember it, standing still in your past, floating fast like a hummingbird.
